NCSL becomes the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children's Services
On 15 September 2009, the National College for School Leadership (NCSL) became the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children’s Services.
The change reflects the recent extension of the National College’s remit to include responsibility for providing training and support for directors of children’s services (DCSs) and those who aspire to the role.
In partnership with the Association of Directors of Children’s Services (ADCS), the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) and a group of experienced DCSs, the College has been developing a children’s services leadership programme which will start in the autumn. This work has been supported by the Virtual Staff College. A separate programme for aspiring DCSs will be launched next year.
The National College will continue to deliver for school leaders with a range of strategic initiatives, leadership development programmes and policy and research activities to enable them to develop their leadership skills.
Welcoming the name change, National College Chief Executive, Steve Munby, said: “Our new name underlines a shared commitment to improving the lives and life chances of all children and young people. Our extended remit builds on the success of our continued work to support leaders in schools and early years settings – work that is already making a positive difference.”
