DCS Leadership Programme details

For 2012-13, the DCS Leadership programme is being re-launched as a modular programme. This decision has been taken in order to continue to best support DCSs as they come into post whilst retaining targeted support for programme ‘graduates’ and other longer serving DCSs. This will give DCSs more opportunities to shape a personal programme in response to their learning needs, wishes and other commitments.

Programme elements

The programme will be comprised of the following elements:

  • Core concepts modules
  • Strategic Leadership seminars
  • Applied Leadership seminars
  • Action learning
  • Coaching
  • Work-based learning

For detailed information on any of these elements, please click here

Duration

Ongoing.

The programme will be offered on an annual basis until 2015, with the individual programme components changing each year to reflect developments in the sector and the needs of DCSs. We hope that DCSs will continue to engage with the programme over a longer period.

There will be an annual registration round during which DCSs will choose which modules to participate in for the coming year; core leadership modules will be available annually for DCSs who have not participated in any of our programmes previously.

Programme delivery

The programme will be delivered through a range of media, both face to face and online as follows:

  • Core concepts: 3 day residential events
  • Strategic Leadership seminars: short residential events
  • Applied Leadership seminars: short residential events
  • Action learning: small group sessions
  • Coaching: one to one sessions
  • Work-based learning: flexible

Core residential events will continue to be held in Nottingham, at the National College for School Leadership or another suitable local venue.

Please see ‘DCS Leadership programme dates and locations’ for confirmed programme dates for 2012-13.
