About leadership development: content from the DCS provision
A package of online resources exploring some of the best practice in local authorities across the whole range of responsibilities included within children’s services is now available to all Virtual Staff College registered users.
These materials were commssioned to support the DCS Leadership Programme which was launched in 2009. When the programme for aspiring directors of children’s services (DCSs) was launched in 2010, access to these materials was widened to include all those participating in the Aspirant DCS Programme. With a small number of exceptions where the licensing agreement does not allow open access, these materials, which form a unique resource library, are now available for use either by individuals who wish to learn more about the children’s services system as a whole, or by those designing local or regional succession planning programmes.
The materials are organised into themes:
- Theme A: Improving outcomes for children and young people
- Theme B: Organisational awareness
- Theme C: Leadership development
These materials were, for the most part, developed and published in 2009 and updated in the early part of 2011. Since then, there have been significant changes in government policy and in the way that authorities have been working at a local level. Please bear this in mind when accessing the materials. Despite this, much of what is documented within these resources still represents some of the best practice in the delivery of children’s services.
